Yufuin Hot Spring Baths, Wulai Township

One of the big tourist attractions of Wulai Township are the hot spring baths that heavily populate the main township area. Ranging from just a few hundred TWD to a few thousand an hour, on a cold winter night we decided to try out a mid-range looking hot spring bath called YuFuin.

The Wulai Waterfall Mountain Park

After departing Wulai Township on the Wulai Log Cart, you’ll find yourself at the Wulai Waterfall Train Station. From here you can get a nice up close and personal view of Wulai Waterfall, browse some of the shops near the station itself or if you’ve had enough of the tourist crowds, head up into the [...]

Alternative descent for the TianMu Waterpipe Trail

The Tian Mu Waterpipe trail starts off at the end of Zongshan North Road Section 7 at the foothills of the Yangmingshang National Park. Starting off with a series of stairs, the Waterpipe trail takes you up into the mountains, levels out for a bit and then dumps you onto a road with a nice [...]

The giant Fude statue of Nanshan Mountain in Zhonghe

If you head down to south Taipei around the Zhonghe area and look towards the mountain range that marks the south boundary of Zhonghe District, it’s hard to miss the giant state of Fude sitting atop the temple there.

The Moss Steps and Lovers Walk of Wulai

Wulai Waterfall is great to spend a bit of time looking at but unless you’re keen to hit the local tourist shops, there’s not all that much do to in the immediate area of the Waterfall Shopping Street. Aside from venturing out into the greater area surrounding Wulai Township to hit some hiking trails or [...]

The most dangerous hiking trail in Taiwan?

We’d just exited the from the Tian Mu Waterpipe hiking trail and were wondering with a few hours of sunlight still left, were contemplating whether to continue climbing Mt Shamao, or to head back down the mountain. With no apparent trail continue to lead up (or down) from the exit point of the Waterpipe trail, [...]

Wulai Waterfall

Not to be confused with Xiao (pronounced Shao) Wulai Waterfall down in Taoyuan County, Wulai Waterfall is arguably the centrepiece of the attractions in and around Wulai Township in the Wulai District of Taipei County. Coming in at roughly 80 meters in height, getting Wulai’s waterfall to fit in a single photo was a stretch [...]

A ride on the Wulai Log Cart

The Wulai Log Cart is neat little 2 station train line that runs between Wulai Township and the Wulai Waterfall shopping street. I’m not entirely sure when it was built, but back in the day the Wulai Log Cart was manually operated (and consisted) of light vehicles travelling between Wulai Street and the waterfall shopping [...]

The Lovers Pathway of Wulai Township

Wulai is a small tourist town located just south of Taipei City in the Wulai District of Taipei County. The main township area has an old street and is known for an abundance of hot spring resorts and bathhouses. A short ways south of the township area itself is the massive Wulai Waterfall. To get [...]

Hiking the TianMu Waterpipe Trail

Situated up in Taipei’s north at the foot of Yangmingshan National Park, the TianMu Waterpipe trail runs up into the park along an old waterpipe built in the 1940′s. Offering an abundance of stairs and the chance to see native Formosan Rock Macaque monkeys, the trail is both popular with locals and visitors to the [...]
