Was Kevin Rudd swearing that much of a big deal?
Kevin Rudd has been recorded having a slip of the tongue dropping the S word and then correcting himself, watch the footage below;
What’s with all the overweight women in the audience?
Some are claiming Rudd “dropped his language to suit his worker audience” and I’ve got to say, I kind of agree with them. Rudd’s a reknowned linguist and although half the time you don’t know what he’s saying, you can appreciate how good of a public speaker he is. Watching the clip it reminds me of that kid in school who would slam dunk every test but would sit at the back of classroom and try to fit in. It didn’t work then and it doesn’t work now.
Club Troppo quotes Bernard Keane summing it up perfectly;
no doubt “shitstorm” was carefully rehearsed. It earned him a round of applause, and that was before Lindsay Fox said he couldn’t have done anything better. The television audience would primarily have been Labor voters, but it would have included plenty of those aspirationals who switched to Labor in 2007 and whom Rudd needs to hang onto as things get bumpy over the next eighteen months.
On the offchance that it was a genuine slip up, the media certainly are pillaging it for all it’s worth. I’m half expecting a ‘commerative edition’ dvd featuring the clip to be given away with newspapers tommorow.

Media reactions: "either Keven Rudd just swore OR I TOTALLY CRAPPED MY PANTS!"
Does anyone honestly think that come next election people are going to be sitting in the booths going “you know what, I don’t believe in the other guys policies, I don’t like his look and I think he’s going to completely stuff up the country. But on the other hand remember that time Kevin Rudd swore, stuff it i’m voting for the other guy. Take that Mr. potty mouth!”
So what if he dropped it, this is Kevin Rudd the guy that won the election on the back of his own website. He’s up to date and modern. He appeals to all the young people and this is how they talk these days. Rudd’s definately reached out and reassured the young people that their jobs at McDonalds are safe. Well of course they’re bloody safe McDonalds is a growth company in the economic crisis.
Perhaps it would have been more appropriate for Rudd to rock up some tradie overalls and flash some arse crack, that would probably have been more demographically targeted publicity wise.
Rudd isn’t the first politician to swear and you can bet he won’t be the last. In 2007 Tony Abbot had a crack in what I think is a hugely more entertaining clip then Rudd’s slip;
In the US a senator straight up told a church pastor that his arguments were bullshit;
French president Nicolas Sarkozy has no qualms about calling out members of the public;
Even Bush and Blair got into a little swearing action during their time;
If Rudd’s outburst was indeed a scripted slip of the tongue, Labor you need to lift your game. Taiwaan politicians don’t just swear, they totally bring their A game.
I’m not afraid to admit that last clip aroused me a little. With local television shows being axed left right and centre due to poor ratings, all someone has to do is drop 20 years off the politicians and bring Taiwaanese politics to Australia and i’d imagine question time at parliament house would rate through the roof.
Hey Aussie networks, stop harping on about Rudd and give us some real Parliamentary smackdowns!

Excuse me but I didn’t say what is attributed to me above. I would appreciate it if the record were corrected as it is a bit spooky being quoted saying something with great confidence, on a matter I have no idea about.

Whoops sorry about that mate, was looking at the end of your article and missed that it was an inline quote by Bernard Keane. Have fixed it up, apologies again.

He’s done much worse than swear. He’s ignored an Aussie overseas who was shot. See details: http://www.kevin-rudd-remember.com

Wow Russel I read your story on your page, sounds like you went through hell over there.
Good luck with getting an answer from the government, you sure sound like you deserve one. You might want to move the photos on the main page to a seperate page with a disclaimer as they are a bit graphic.
