Just one problem with your article, Exetel never sent out any email asking customers to start their downloads at 2am. The first I knew of it was when an cryptic email that seemed to say "you (all customers) have ignored requests, so we are cutting off peak back to 2am to 12 noon".

I agree completely and all this bloke ha achieved is making himself sound like a knob and made me instantly wary of Exetel when I next make an ISP choice (which is soon thanks to TPG).

Having said that I must add that an asshole is a pit for keeping donkeys. This is Australia - we have arseholes (and far too many of them). Apologies but seeing the word 'ass' used everywhere shits me to tears. Don't get me started on the increasing use of the wholly American word 'douche' either. Makes my cork string hat quiver with anger.

I might sound ranty but if I pay for a **GB onpeak/**GB offpeak I will try and maximise my usage to the best I can.
It’s not out of a lack of concern for my fellow internet users/ISP, it’s because it was what was advertised and what I pay my $$ every month for.

Exactly. This move from Linton reminds me of the old 'ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY FREAKING ALL YOU CAN EAT UNLIMITED*' days. Where * was a '200mb' download cap.

Even if Exetel put the 12-2pm no p2p rule in the terms and conditions they then still open themselves up to the nightmare that is disputing the 'but I wasn't even using p2p, I don't even know what p2p is!' routine from downloaders.

From there it's the ombudsman and from there the ACCC. We all know how well that worked out for unlimited* isps.

The whole problem with this dilemma is that the customer paid for the offpeak at 12am-12pm and sees fit to do with that time as they please.

I will admit to not changing my scheduler to start at 2am because they didn't ask us to do it specifically as downloaders, offering people different times as an option that they can take up if they like it is NOT the same as asking everyone who downloads to start 2 hours later as far as I'm concerned. Now if they'd stated in their mailouts that everyone who is using the P2P network should set their on and off peak hours to a different time and gave reasons why in a simple to read email I might have considered it to be a prudent move and decided to do so.
(To my recall the emails were sort of long winded and I didn't read them properly either to be fair)

Now I don't care and even with the goalposts shifted so I lose 2 hours a day from my offpeak quota I still turn my downloads on before the offpeak period starts.
Why? Because I can and I'm not going over my per month quota anyway.
I paid for that period of time to be used as I see fit. I only use my scheduler if I am coming up close to my monthly download limit and don't want to go over.

I might sound ranty but if I pay for a **GB onpeak/**GB offpeak I will try and maximise my usage to the best I can.

LOL@Exetel, their asshole customers are only outdone by their asshole customer service.

TPG customers are just as bad though.

You didn't have a normal news.com.au source, oz, are you a whirlpoolian or an exetel customer?
