tigertoyFor the last 30 odd years or so, Tamils in Sri Lanka have been fighting with the Sri Lankan government over giving them their own state. I’m not going to throw facts and figures at you because you don’t care, and neither do I.

One great thing about this country is that we don’t care where you come from. If you can become a productive member of society, abide by our laws and leave any tribal war bullshit you might have entertained back home, then you’re ok by us and more then welcome.

It was then with much rolling of the eyes that I read today’s backflip by the Labor government on the banning of the Tamil Tigers in Australia.

For the most part I don’t really care what goes on halfway around the world. Whether or not the Tamil’s were given a disproportionally large area of Sri Lanka to make their own state is of no consequence to me. Much in the same way I doubt anyone living in Sri Lanka cares about how my local Coles is always out of coriander on a Monday night week in week out.

What concerns me though is the fact that Australia seems to willy nilly let anyone into this country regardless of any cultural, religious or ethnic grudges they might hold against another particular group of people.

The Tamil Tigers are very much alive in Australia, back in 2007 we were accused of providing up to 30% of the monthly $10-$30 million US the Tigers were being funded with. We also arrested three men on suspicions of raising funds for the Tigers but the charges were recently dropped.

Despite the charges being dropped, you’d have to be pretty naive to think Tamil Tiger funding wasn’t going on in Australia. Recently in the US four men have pleaded guilty to terrorism charges.

Karunakaran Kandasamy, Pratheepan Thavaraja, Murugesu Vinayagamoorthy and Vijayshanthar Patpanathan admitted on Tuesday at Brooklyn federal court conspiring to funnel money and arms to rebels in Sri Lanka.

Prosecutors have said the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) relied on expatriates to raise money, get weapons and spread propaganda.

To coordinate these activities, the Tigers established “branches” in at least 12 countries, including an office in the New York borough of Queens, they said.

They said Kandasamy oversaw the organization’s activities and fund-raising and acted under the direction of senior Tamil leaders in Sri Lanka.

Don’t kid yourself into thinking this kind of rubbish isn’t going on here in Australia.

The head of the Australasian Federation of Tamil Associations, Dr Raga Ragavan, said the Tamil Tigers gave its people a voice at the bargaining table and a chance to end decades of discrimination.

He strongly urged the Government not to ban the organisation locally.

“We will be shocked to hear if the Tamil Tigers are banned in Australia,” he said.

“The Tamil community will also be disappointed very much.

“They will take this as a message to the Sri Lankan government: your genocide is accepted by the international community.”

It would appear the Australasian Federation of Tamil Associations is nothing more then a front for the Tamil Tigers in Australia, without of course the controversial name.

The money side of things isn’t what gets me though. Obviously the Tamil’s aren’t the only ones guilty of funneling money overseas for dubious purposes. I’m sure there are similar groups set up for Palestinians, Israelis, Pakistan, India and Taiwan to name a few.

No, what gets me is that by encouraging this rubbish we indirectly license a new generation of Tamil’s who will be born and bred here but brainwashed into hating a particular demographic living in Australia.

Need proof it will happen?

A large brawl broke out in Sydney’s west last night between Tamils protesting against the war in Sri Lanka and supporters of the Government’s offensive. The violence occurred after a convoy of about 120 cars of young Tamils drove through Sydney’s CBD waving Tamil flags yesterday afternoon.

When the group returned to a Hindu temple in Westmead – where a Tamil has been on a hunger strike for the past two weeks – reports began to filter in of Tamils being attacked at Westmead railway station, the protest organiser, who wished to be known as “Vish”, said.

Vish and some friends went to the station and were set upon, he said. “We got out of the car, went around the corner and then there were three Sinhalese [the Buddhist ethnic majority in Sri Lanka] guys with three crowbars who came running at us.”

He managed to escape from the three men and call police. He then heard a large brawl had erupted at a nearby car park. When he arrived he found more than 50 Tamils and Sinhalese in a brawl involving weapons. “It was about to get worse … but then the police came,” he said.

The night climaxed in an acid attack (warning: graphic video) in which a house where 3 Sinhalese men lived was broken into and the men set upon.

Now I’m not suggesting the Tiger supporting Tamils are solely to blame for the brawl, but the fact of the matter is should we allow pockets of clear cut hate like this breed in Australia we’re only inviting trouble later down the track.

The US and UK have banned the Tigers, the EU currently have them on a terrorist watchlist and Canada is boosting immigration screening to stop Tamil Tigers migrating. So why are we throwing open are doors and welcoming the Tigers with their agendas and hatred?

The Tamil Tigers have been defeated, it’s over. If you want to bring your stupid shitfight of a war to Australian shores we’re not interested. Pack your bags and go back home.
