Stephen Conroy spoke at a Cisco event today in Sydney and has basically admitted that he can make no guarantees that once the filter is in place, much more then child porn will be added to it.

“The parliament of Australia is made up of elected representatives of the people of Australia and if the parliament decides it wants to go an extra step, that’s what the parliament does,” he said, adding people have the chance to “toss us out if they don’t like what we do or they don’t like what somebody else does”.

What Conroy seems to be doing is distancing himself from future blame once the inevitable happens and the government starts going crazy and adding anything it wants to the blacklist. This is fundamentally stupid for two reasons;

  1. YOU’RE THE BLOODY IDIOT RESPONSIBLE FOR TURNING ON THE FILTER.
  2. YOU WORK FOR THE BLOODY GOVERNMENT.

At the event Conroy has acknowledged that the March 18th leaked list is the ACMA listseemed to be close to the (ACMA) list“. Wikileaks currently hosts a guide on how to independently obtain the ACMA list directly from third party filtering software using the list so I think at this point in time any uncertainty has been squashed.

Interestingly he also persisted with the ‘we only block child porn’ facade stating;

“It is completely untrue that the leaked blacklist contains political content. This is a list which contains sites that promote incest, rape, child pornography and child abuse.

This is despite the fact that you can obtain the filter directly from third party software and clearly see such sites as Youtube, PartyPoker, Wikileaks, an anonymous redirect service, Rapidshare, Abbywinters, Wikipedia, several other .AU adult sites, www.ballroomdancing.com.au and practically all major online poker sites on this list.

I think Conroy might want to fire his speech writer as he is clearly now lying to the Australian public, either that or there’s a whole underbelly side of Youtube that I never knew existed.

Whilst it’s technically true that Conroy’s department will not be responsible for adding sites to the filter they are still as guilty, if not more guilty for marching on to deliver internet filtering to the Australian public.

Everybody knows ACMA is a faceless crock and that Conroy is the unofficial public face of the internet filter. That’s something that won’t change once it’s implemented. It’s not like we’re all just going to forget who the moron was that brought us the filter in the first place and start ratting solely on ACMA.

As long as you keep pushing the filter Stephen elements of the public are going to want to see your political career crushed. As for voting you out, what a weak cop out excuse; you know as well as we do that you’ve got plenty of time to stuff up our internet before the next federal election.
