Sandilands vs Hughesy on Twitter – who won?
You know it’s a slow news day when the top story around the country is about a Twitter fued between two breakfast radio hosts. Still, the news.com.au article about Dave Hughes and Kyle Sandilands echanging insults did pique my interest when they mentioned that “much of the exchange was so blue it was unpublishable.”
Kinda curious as to what these two public figures were saying I decided to go off and have a look for myself. What I found only confirmed just how much of a slow news day it must have been in news rooms around Australia this morning.
Still, it’s interesting to see the level of raw exposure and personality Twitter allows public figures to express over the internet. Without the PR assistants and producers it’s very easy to get a completely different insight into how people behave.

Back in 2006, Kyle and Jackie O were reported to be making close to a combined income of $3.5-$4 million a year for their radio show alone. I couldn’t find anything on Dave Hughes income so I’d be grateful if someone could fill in the blank.
It’s good to know these two are charged with entertaining breakfast radio audiences around the country each morning.

So, I had a love affair with Twitter… but it wained rather quickly. When the whole “Ashton v. CNN” thing happened I really started to tune out.
I think it has great potential as a tool, but the concept of caring how many people follow you just… does nothing for me.

It wasn’t just those two, Oprah and some others got in on the action too.
I have a Twitter account but have never sent out a tweet, I just think the idea is painfully stupid for the average person. I do use it for breaking news if I happen to be at my blog PC when a news story breaks and there isn’t much info out.
Otherwise yeah, most of the time people post links to stuff that’s available from other more credible sources.
As a social tool I can’t think of anything more annoying then up to the second updates on people’s lives.
