Ever since he first appeared on Big Brother all those years ago the Australian public has been made to endure Kyle Sandilands loudmouth antics.

With the subtlety of a space shuttle at a drive in movie, the wit of a freshly painted wall and a whiny voice that puts Fran Drescher to shame I was ecstatic to read tonight that Kyle Sandilands has been taken off the air.

FINALLY.

Hot on the heels of the on-air child rape revelation last week that has been hotly discussed in Australia over week or so it seems Austereo have decided to pull the plug.

In a statement this evening, Austereo publicity manager Kate Whitby said: “Kyle Sandilands’ management has advised Austereo that he is unable to perform his duties on-air at this time.

“Further, following a great deal of consideration and having consulted Jackie O and all stakeholders, Austereo has formed the view that it is in the interest of all parties, for the Kyle and Jackie O Show to go into recess until we have completed an across-the-networks review of the principals (sic) and protocols of our interaction with our audience.


Initially I’d placed the blame squarely on the mother and whoever was responsible for screening guests on the show. Later it was revealed that Kyle and Jackie specifically refused to use a commonly used 7 second delay broadcast, instead choosing to do their show “pure live” because it offered “better entertainment”.

In my opinion of you choose to do pure live radio and decide to run segments like this you deserve everything that happens to you.

Sandilands has a history of blunt pig headedness so I’m sure this decision didn’t come easily. I’d put money on the fact that 2day pulled the plug but in order to save face ran with the Kyle’s management made the call that he was unable to work.

Kyle loved his morning show and revelled in the fact it was the most popular breakfast show in Sydney, he even gave Dave Hughes shit about it just a few months ago over Twitter.

Kyle loves his publicity and being in the spotlight so for him to suddenly give up breakfast radio makes no sense.

What does make sense though here is somebody in 2day FM’s management seems to have cracked the shits and clamped down on the show. Whether there’s legal liability or something more sinister behind the scenes is anyone guess.

Whatever the reason the cancellation is great news and if media reports are anything to go by we could also shortly see Kyle being dumped as an Australian idol judge too.

I’m sure an official press release will be made public shortly telling us Kyle is unable to work on the breakfast show anymore due to focusing on his girlfriend’s non-existant music career. The couple moved to the US some time ago because it’s easier to sell crappy music on the US market and Sandilands has been doing the breakfast show via satellite ever since.

No word on who’ll be replacing the breakfast slot tommorow morning but hopefully it’s someone with a bit of brains who isn’t just a blunt spear aimed at the lowest possible common denominator.

I for one look forward to Kyle’s return to obscurity but part of me can’t help but think this could just all be another publicity stunt in an attempt to get listeners to complain and demand the show be brought back. I guess we’ll see what happens during the week.

For now I’m just happy Australia is one step closer to ridding ourselves of Sandilands and boy, I’d love to be a fly on the wall when Dave Hughes finds out.
