Domestic Violence in Taiwan
A few weeks back I spotted this poster outside of a Taiwanese Police Station…

Although I think it’s probably something to do with domestic violence I couldn’t help but wonder if there was perhaps a brothel or something on the second floor of the building.
If it is a poster against domestic violence surely there’s a better message they could have adopted then ‘Love or punishment? You decide!’ It sounds like the hook question for a reality tv series.
*cue dramatic music*
“We placed ten sexy Taiwan ladies on a remote desert island… love….or punishment – YOU DECIDE!”
Of course being Taiwan I’m not even sure if the poster is aimed at men, maybe the intention was to give women a police sanctioned ultimatum when their husbands get home.
Then of course there’s the effectiveness of the poster. Having your slogan in big bold English in a town where there’s probably a whole 10 people that can read and understand what they’re reading seems a bit pointless.
Or maybe that’s the point.
‘Hey we know what you get up to but just do it quietly!”
In any case a reasonably attractive girl in a tutu (yes she is wearing a tutu), did make a refreshing change from the ‘ALL MEN ARE VICIOUS BASTARDS OUT TO BASH YOU!” campaigns featuring dark music and seedy looking men we get back in Australia.
