Christmas lights @ Banciao Train Station, Taipei

Having spent the lead up to last Christmas in one of Taiwan’s country townships, this year I’m quite enjoying the various displays I’ve run across in my travels.
To date, perhaps the most spectacular Christmas light and decoration set up I’ve seen in Taiwan yet has got to be Banciao Station, just southwest of Taipei City.
Our journey begins at the Banciao Station Bus Terminal,

which had a huge tree lit up along with a pedestrian bridge behind it:

Alot of the other bridges in the immediate area around Banciao Train Station had also been done up, and each looked quite impressive in their own right:

Walking towards the main Christmas decoration display area, the council had gone all out draping every tree in sight with white christmas lights:

On the way we passed Taipei City Hall, which had some decorations of its own out front:

And on a street corner, just outside of the main decoration area was this house:

Inside you had various Christmas themed displays set up for people to take their photo with:

The main Christmas decoration area was very well decorated and lit up I thought:

Running along the boundary were these cool blue lights,

which if you stood under, were quite nice to look at:

Off to one side you had this little love heart box area,

With the idea I guess being for couples to go inside and take their lovey dovey Christmas photos.
On the otherside of the area was a functioning merry go round:

And as you can see, just behind the merry go round was the centrepiece of the display,

A huge white Christmas Tree.

Hanging onto the side of the Christmas Tree was a happy looking Santa,

and underneath the tree some rather large presents:

How that tiny little santa hauled those huge presents down there I’ll never know.
Hats off to Banciao City council for putting the effort into some pretty decent Christmas decorations!
If you want to visit the Banciao Station Christmas decoration display, just make a beeline for Banciao Station and exit from the south.
If you get lost just look at the sky for the giant floodlights they’ve got set up around the Christmas Tree – can’t miss em!

I’d just like to wish Ozsoapbox—and all the other folks that have contributed to this blog over the past 12 months a Happy and Safe Festive season, and may all your hopes for a prosperous New Year come to fruition.
I know that at times our particular personal opinions—on sometimes controversial topics—haven’t quite coincided, but I’m thinking that this is the one time of the year we can all agree to let those differences lie, and sincerely hope that mankind can join as one for the future favourable progress of our societies—wherever we may be in world.
